A little bikini History

The bikini is an iconic piece of swimwear that has been worn by women since the 1940s.

It was invented in 1946 by French designer Louis Reard and was named after bikini Atoll, a coral reef that’s a member of The Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. His inspiration for the style came from observing native women in Tahiti wearing wrap-around skirts. Hence, he designed his own similar garment.

Who Wore the Best Selling bikini?

In the mid 20th century, bikinis were not as common as they are today. They weren’t even considered appropriate for swimming. However, the popularity of the bikini grew throughout the 1940s and 1950s. By the 1960s, the bikini had become more accepted and was worn by celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth.
